I sewed myself a new dress last week. This is the Lonsdale dress from Sewaholic. I used a lightweight denim chambray. I may or may not have purchased the fabric specifically for this project, I can’t remember for certain but it is perfect for this dress!
This pattern is quick and easy and can be whipped up, start to finish, in one afternoon. It features a zipper back (my little photographer didn’t get any pics of the back of my dress) and pockets. Who doesn’t love nice, deep pockets in a dress?! I am going to have to alter the top a bit as it is too loose. I had the same issue with the last dress I made, but taking a dress in is a pretty easy task. I clearly have a big bum and a not so big top. I will remember this for my next project.
I shortened the straps and attached them directly to the dress rather than make the loops for the cute bow back. While I think that detail is absolutely darling I am often alone with my three year old when I get dressed in the morning. A zipper back dress is tricky enough, and a bow was out of the question. I also wanted to wear it with a cardigan in the Spring and wanted a smooth back. I do plan to sew another Lonsdale dress for Summer and I think I will try the bow on that one.
Another issue is undergarments. I safety pinned my bra straps in the front to wear this out Friday night. It worked but is mildly uncomfortable. There has to be a better option, right girls?
At the end of our little photo shoot we had a muddy-pawed visitor who clearly has no respect for a fresh off the machine, handmade dress and tights. Sigh.
